Harold Smedley
Photographs of the membership card and fly-tying box of Mr Harold Smedley, Clerk of Derby Racecourse in the 1930s.
He was the longest standing member of Darley Dale Fly-Fishing Club amongst those whose joining dates are listed, and a committee member.
The dyes in the case are special: they are a complete set of the Crawshaw's dyes that Halford recommended for his dry fly patterns.
The envelopes are Mr Smedley's old pay packets in which he kept his hackles and herls.
The whip finish tool is a Thompson, available from the early 1940s, this is probably an original item. The shot pliers, Veniard's winging pliers and the haemostats 3rd, 4th and 5th items on the 2nd row of tools have been added more recently, probably after the late 1960's.
